The Hypostatic Union of Jesus.

The Hypostatic Union is the term used to designate the two natures of Jesus; it’s the union of his two natures. One nature is fully diving and the other one is fully human. This doctrine teaches that these two natures both are united in one person in the God-man. However, although Jesus has two natures he is still one person; we shouldn’t confuse that.

The New Testament teaches that Jesus is equal with God (John 8:58, 10:30) but that he also became a person (John 1:14). We see Jesus’ equality with God through his receiving of worship (Matt. 2:2, 11, 14:33), that he was prayed to (Acts 7:59), his sinlessness (1 Pet. 2:22, Hebrews 4:15), omniscience (John 21:17), and deity (Col. 2:9). We are also informed of Jesus’ limited physical body (John 4:6, 19:28) – we see that Jesus died (Romans 5:8), he grew in wisdom (Luke 2:52), he was tempted (Matt. 4:1), and that he prayed to God the Father (John 17). Accepting the message of the New Testament clearly suggests that Jesus is both divine and human.

However, this is, on its face, a really simple concept, but we also shouldn’t expect to understand it fully (by that I don’t mean that we shouldn’t probe it, investigate it and provide answers to challenges, but that we will never fully understand it in all its depth). For example, how is it possible that an infinite God can become a finite man in Jesus Christ? How did Jesus exist eternally prior to his virginal conception? These are questions that have been tackled by some of the leading Christian thinkers throughout history as well as today. It is also true that Christians need to have answers for the doctrines proposed by Christian Scientists and Jehovah’s Witnesses that warp the biblical message. That and more will be our focus over the next few weeks and months.

  1. The way I simply understand this is God the Father knew that Man has the freedom to follow or not follow his ways – that’s how he created them. So in all likely hood Man will be tempted remember Lucifer has already been cast down to own and rule the space between earth and heaven. God has always had that back up plan in that he will eventually send his son to die for the sins of man. His order is blood is the sacrifice that he ranks the purest form of worship. Remember Cain and Abel. By faith Abel knew that sacrificing the best of his animals by blood is pleasing to God and he was right as God clearly favored him and not Cain. So if you read Ephesians 8 Though I am the least deserving of all God’s people, he graciously gave me the privilege of telling the Gentiles about the endless treasures available to them in Christ. 9 I was chosen to explain to everyone[c] this mysterious plan that God, the Creator of all things, had kept secret from the beginning. When Satan was successful in tempting humans – the whole creation knew God had to kill them spiritually and so He did hence the big Fall. Little did Satan knew that Jesus the only begotten Son was the redeemer of mankind to follow. But each man had to accept that this was the only salvation to believe and be saved and no longer the sacrifice and follow Moses law and rituals. Jesus is the way and the truth and the life. So that explains why Jesus had to take the form of man become finite and die with all the sins of mankind to be restored to the Father by faith. When he was resurrected meaning he returned to his former glory he was even praised and glorified by HIs father and all creation when they realise that what God had planned all along. This is the reason that there is so much Joy in heaven when one lost sheep is found.
